I'm Checkers. Can you see why I was named that? I am about 6 years old. I was a stray that a family took in and kept me for about 6 months. They have a couple big dogs that kept picking on me. The big dogs would be mean to me when I needed to go outside. My "found" family decided that I would be better off in a new home without the stress of their big dogs. So here I am in rescue! I am working on my housetraining and get along great with the other dogs in my foster home. I love to be cuddled, being a lap dog and getting attention. Boo Boo, That's my name. I am probably about 5 years old. I came here from a shelter after my owner turned me in. We don't know why I was taken there but am happy to have the chance of a good life through Houston Pekingese Rescue. They were so crowded at the shelter that since I was an owner surrender they were going to put me to sleep right away. Then Houston Pekingese Rescue spoke for me and I was spared! I have flea allergy dermatitis and dry eye. I don't know if that is why my first people got rid of me or if they were victims of the current economy or simply not good pet people. I have been treated for my medical conditions and am doing very well. My skin is healing, the itchies are going away and my coat is starting to come back in. My medicine doesn't cost much, so I am now ready for my forever home. If you want a loyal dog that can help keep you lap warm and share your life, I'm your boy! Lola came to us from a shelter as a Pekingese. However, she is NOT a Peke, she apparently is a 1 year old Tibetan Spaniel! We feel that she was a stray for some time as she was very thin and her coat was rough. This lovely young lady is friendly and playful. She gets along with other dogs and everyone she meets. Boogie is 2 years old. He's very sweet and loves to be held. He has a favorite squeaky toy here that he really likes. When he goes outside he takes it with him.
